A little over a year ago I started buying house plants. I don’t know what brought on this sudden love for having live plants in my house, but I couldn’t stop buying them! I have some I don’t even know the names of, but my favourites are my Dracaena, Lucky Palm, Money Tree, and one that looks like a Spider Plant but has dark green and red leaves (to be honest I have no idea what it’s called!)
Because of my new obsession, the last couple months I’ve been on this growing high so I started some fruits & veggies from seeds. I planted strawberries, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, romaine lettuce, and garlic. I can’t help but check on them multiple times a day. Honestly watching them sprout has been ones of the most exhilarating feelings haha. They’re all my babies too, you know? ;) I also built a garden bed to put them in once they’re a bit bigger!
Here’s a few things I’ve learned about indoor plants and starting my garden so far:
So. Much. Light. Put your seeds directly in the sunlight if you can! This helps the seeds germinate faster.
Get yourself a spray bottle. I have learned that spraying the top of your soil daily and letting the water absorb through helps them grow faster. (Tip: add more water if plants are in direct sunlight vs an overcast day so they don’t completely dry out)
Do. Not. Over. Water. I think this speaks for itself!
Use your spray bottle to mist your indoor plants leaves. This keeps them hydrated and keeps dust off of them.
When bringing a new indoor plant into your home, keep it separated from all your other plants until you’re sure it is bug free. (I will have a whole post about my experience and how I got rid of bugs!)
Honestly there are so many tips and tricks I could share - But let me leave it at that for now!
All I have left to say is grow baby, grow!
Until next time…
